Electric vehicles sometimes get an unfair reputation as lacking in the power department, but Mitsubishi is out to prove that EVs are sometimes capable of extreme feats. Recently, the auto brand announced its intent to race  a modified version of its new Mitusubishi i-MiEV all-electric vehicle up Pike's Peak, a tall, race-ready mountain trail in Colorado used in the annual Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (a.k.a. The Race to the Clouds), and we believe it will be successful in doing so!

The auto industry hasn't always done the best job advertising all-electric vehicles (EVs), but that promises to change with the new Mitsubishi i-MiEV advertisement campaign. The new campaign features videos like "Fear of Silence" and "Tailpipe Separation Anxiety" (which are "produced" by the mythical Electriphobia Research Instiute) that are not only appealing; they have us laughing out loud!

The 2012 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport has received the highest safety award available; it has been named a "Top Safety Pick" by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) after rigorous testing. Testing methods include a side impact test, a rear crash protection test, a frontal offset test, and a roof strength test. Ratings are labeled as "Good," "Acceptable," "Marginal," or "Poor." To become a Top Safety Pick, a vehicle must earn a "Good" rating in all four tests.

Mitsubishi is always working on the next greatest invention, and now the company can boast about the successful creation of a smaller electric motor that is sure to shake up the auto industry. The new, more efficient engine features a built-in silicon carbide inverter that also makes renders it much lighter than traditional EV engines.

As the European market continues to struggle, companies are considering moving to other, more profitable markets, and Mitsubishi recently announced it will no longer produce vehicles in Europe. This has been a decision long in-the-works; the company states, according to AutoEvolution, that "it has concluded it is not viable to allocate a new production model at NedCar."¹ Its current factory in the Netherlands will be shut down as the automaker looks to more profitable Asian markets such as Thailand and Japan.

It's true, the experts at Mitsubishi are experts for a reason; they know when it's time to roll out a new product to have it successfully compete in the market. That's why the company has decided to move up the release of its 2013 Mitsubishi i by a full six months to better compete with other auto brands' electric vehicles. The original rollout of the i was scheduled for December 2012, but will now happen by July, according to the company's President, Osamu Masuko.
