Forward- Looking Mitsubishi Creates Plant-Based Floor Mats

The official statement from Mitsubishi reads: "Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC), working with EIDAIKAKO Co., Ltd., MRC Pylen Co., Ltd. and Toyota Tsusho Corporation, has developed a new floor mat made using plant-based bio-polyethylene (bio-PE) fibre to add to its lineup of proprietary plant-based "Green Plastic" products. The company plans to start production of the new floor mats in the summer of 2012."1  The fibers in these floor mats are made of a plant-based resin that's naturally constructed during sugarcane molasses production. This material is then wrapped in petroleum-based polypropylene, which allows it the durability required of floor mats. These plant-based mats are still abrasive and heat resistant and will be available in all new Mitsubishi models.

Here at Bill Penney Mitsubishi, we're excited about all of the steps Mitsubishi is taking to decrease its carbon footprint as a company. These new floor mats are just a part of the company's "green" initiatives to become more environmentally-friendly. For example, Mitsubishi also has several new electric vehicles in the works.
